A hospital-based general physician assumes the care of inpatients in the place of your primary care physician. You can reach them through Parkview’s main switchboard at (207) 373-2000.
The term “hospitalist” describes physicians who devote much of their professional time and focus to the care of hospitalized patients, rather than to a private practice.
Several doctors practice together and work full-time caring for inpatients, always in collaboration with your own physician.
Hospitalists care for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You may meet one of our hospitalists, Dr. Matt Mechtenberg or Dr. Paul Wentland, after admission by your primary care doctor.
The hospitalist model is growing as a result of the increasing complexity of inpatient care, and the pressures of busy outpatient practices.
Whether or not your own primary care physician has established privileges to work at Parkview, you may have your treatments perfomed here. In addition, your outpatient services, such as diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physical therapy, etc., can be completed by Parkview’s clinical staff. The results are sent directly to your physician.
Parkview’s hospitalists will oversee your stay as if you were our patient from the beginning. We become your “doctor away from home” to make certain your care is convenient, compassionate, and of the highest quality.
