Women’s Surgical Services
We offer a wide range of women’s health surgical services including needle localization, breast surgery and gynecological surgery. We are committed to offering the latest minimally
invasive and laproscopic procedures to minimize scarring, decrease pain, and shorten recovery time. Our physicians have special training in breast and gynecological surgeries and use the most advanced techniques and tools available.

Sandy Emerson RTR(M)(CT) is our Lead Mammographer/Breast Care Coordinator. She Provides support to patients undergoing breast imaging and additional diagnostic follow-up. She also assists the Radiologist as the patients are
guided through the process. (scheduling, guidance, liaison between patient and provider)

Parkview Adventist Medical Center ‘s Breast Health Department is a multidisciplinary breast care program, offering clinical and support services from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling. Our services include digital mammography, breast ultrasound, and biospy.

Many women are also concerned with the prevention, detection and treatment of osteoporosis. One-half of all women will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime.
Early detection is vital. We offer bone density testing, a quick and painless form of x-ray technology.

Central Maine Obstetrics and Gynecology at Topsham
Central Maine Obstetrics and Gynecology at Topsham, staffed by Dr. Jonathan Commons, MD and Barrett Grimnes, PA, is improving the health and well being of the women in our community. To this end, we offer a comprehensive range of educational, diagnostic and treatment services designed to meet the diverse needs of women. In addition to our general gynecology services, we help encourage women to take care of their bodies and empower them to become actively involved in their wellbeing. In addition, Dr. Commons is available to help you with your obstetric needs in our Topsham office.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Our board-certified gynecologist has expertise in performing minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries for gynecologic problems. We provide alternatives to hysterectomy and other surgeries to allow women to quickly return to their regular activities. Techniques include hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, vaginal surgery and office-based sterilizations. Contact the office at: (207) 795-5770.
Pelvic Health and Incontinence
We refer our patients to the Women’s Specialty Center and the Bladder Control Center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. They are located at 287 Main Street Plaza, Suite 201. You can reach the Women’s Specialty Center at (207) 795-7180; and the Bladder Control Center at (207) 795-2121. It is our goal to help women with all of their bladder health needs including overcoming pelvic pain and incontinence issues.
In addition, women with — and without — voiding dysfunction may also have a variety of pelvic anatomical problems. They include:
•Cystocele: When the bladder drops into the vaginal canal
•Rectocele: When the rectum drops into the vaginal canal
•Enterocele: When the small bowel drops into the vaginal canal
•Uterine prolapse: When the uterus drops into the vaginal canal
•Vaginal vault prolapse: When the uterus has been removed and the cuff of the vagina drops into the vaginal canal.
Diagnostic tests include:
•Physical and neurologic examination of the pelvic area
•Cystoscopy: looking inside the bladder
•Urethroscopy: looking inside the water channel (urethra)
•Urodynamic testing: bladder function testing, as well as electromyography of the muscles around the water channel
•Bladder instillations: Used to help in diagnosing interstitial cystitis
Treatment options include:
•Pelvic reconstructive procedures to correct prolapse and other anatomical defects
